IB Word of the month: Risk-takers

Students and adults that are Risk-Takers approach unfamiliar situations without anxiety and have the confidence and independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas, and strategies. They are brave and articulate in defending their beliefs.

Academic Focus: Dr. Seuss

Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American writer and illustrator best known for authoring popular children's books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. His work includes several of the most popular children's books of all time, selling over 600 million copies and being translated into more than 20 languages by the time of his death. Our favorite quote of Dr. Seuss: The academic focus for this month is to allow our students to read a fiction book just for enjoyment. Many times students are encouraged to read non- fiction as this is a focus area for state testing; however, children sometimes want to read for pure enjoyment. We want to encourage reading from all genres. Teachers will be adding fiction stories to their literacy lessons.

Important Announcements/Reminders:

Speech Students:

This is the first time in several years that we have had speech services for our students. Lately, the services have been inconsistent because the teacher works with another school. Services to students receiving speech this year will resume after spring break, and the classes missed will be made up. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in this manner.

Thank you parents for your cooperation with our procedures for arrival and dismissal this year. Things have been much better. We ask that you would continue to following procedures that we have in place, so that we can keep everyone safe.

Here are a few reminders as we move into the spring season.

Students should not arrive on campus before 7:30. (Teachers on duty for the month are to be on post by 7:30 a.m. which is 30 minutes before school officially starts.)

Daycare buses and vans drop off in front of the school in the mornings. All other students are asked to please use the carpool line or the crossing guard on Virginia Street to drop off in the mornings. She will be in place until 8:15 a.m. each morning.

Please pick up your students in the carpool line or Virginia Street pick up. Make sure teachers are notified in writing if you are going to change dismissal procedures for the day. Please do not come into the gym to pick a child up if he/she is a car rider. We have structured a system where we can keep up with the students. We do not want the students snatched out of the lines when they move to the gym. This causes a concern when teachers do not know what happened to a child. Our goal each and every day is to give your child back to you the way you sent them to us, safe and sound. We appreciate your cooperation so far, and ask that you continue to help as we try our best to finish our year out successfully.

ID: Please bring your ID in when you are checking out a child. Early dismissals end for the day at 2:30 p.m.

Please remember to monitor you child’s attendance and tardies to school.

Extended day Pre- registration: Pre-registration for the 2018-2019 school year is April 9th, beginning at 6:00 a.m. Remember space is limited. The pre-registration fee is $25 and is non-refundable.
