Academic Focus: Student focus for the month of January will be math. Teachers will introduce 3rd quarter math standards. Students will be expected to perfect their facts at each level. Classes will be rewarded with high numbers of proficient students for each class.

Magnet School Process

New Students for 2018-2019 school year will tour Council starting on Friday January 12, from 1-6 pm. The school will be open for tours again on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please invite your friends and family with school age students to apply. The application process started on January 4, 2018. The entire process is located on the MCPSS web page under magnet schools. Parents, remember all magnet school students must live in Mobile County.

Returning student’s process:The flyer will be put in each student’s report card. Please make sure that you re-apply for your child by January 25th. Also, use the student number next to your child’s name located on the report card to apply.

Special thank you to parents for allowing your students to participate in the Christmas Spanish Night Christmas program. The Spanish department (Mrs. Muncy and Mrs. Davis and their committee of teachers) worked extremely hard and the students perfected their performances. A special thanks to the PTA for the refreshments and the surprise visit from Santa.

Penelope House – During the week of January 8th, Marley Davis, Council’s Red Ribbon nominee, will be collecting items for the Penelope House as a part of her service activity. Boxes will be placed at the end of each hall. The following items will be collected:

·         Teachers: Diapers

·         Pre-K: Wipes

·         Kindergarten: Hand Soap Pumps

·         1st Grade: Travel Size Mouthwash

·         2nd Grade: Combs

·         3rd Grade: Lysol Spray

·         4th Grade: Towels and Wash Cloths

·         5th Grade: Cleaning Supplies

Report Cards distributed to students – January 9th

Honor’s Day for Grades 1 and 2 - January 12th @ 8:15 - 9:00 a.m.

Honor’s Day for Grades 3-5 - January 12th @ 9:15-10:00 a.m.

CARP Party - January 12th

Schoolwide Council’s Accelerated Reading Celebration for 1st semester will be after assembly for students.

New Students and Parents Open House - January 12th (1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) & January 13th (8:30a.m.-12:00p.m.)

Dr. Martin Luther King’s Birthday – January 15th- No School  

Tutoring Resumes – January 16th

Geography Bee – January 17th @ 8:30 (Grades 3-5)
