Academic Focus

CTS will BLOW the TOP off the ACT ASPIRE Spring 2017! Our teachers and students have worked very hard to adhere to the academic standards and guidelines set for each of them this school year. The state assessments began on April 4, 2017 at CTS. Students in grades 3-5 are involved in this process. Therefore the Academic Focus this month will be to review all skills taught throughout the year, ultimately performing our very best on the tests.

IB Learner Profile

Principled students and adults act with integrity and honesty. They show fairness, justice, and respect for others. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them. Principled students understand the difference between right and wrong.

The 5th Grade Exhibition Group: “Test on Me, or Cruelty Free” will be collecting old towels and blankets to donate to the A.R.F. animal shelter now through April 20. You can put your donations in the box at the end of the 5th grade hall. We appreciate your help!

Testing Tips

  • Students should report to school on time.
  •  Students should eat a good breakfast (CTS Breakfast is served starting at 7:30 a.m. each day).
  •   Students should get a good night’s sleep.
  •  Students should not rush through to be the first one finished with the test.
  •   Students that have been prescribed glasses, should remember to bring them to school each day.
  •  Students should be encouraged to always check over their work after they have finished.
  • Parents can help students by encouraging the students each day.
  •  Positivity and confidence are key factors, as everyone strives to just do their best.

State Testing Grades 3-5: CTS Process

  • Testing tips will be discussed with the students starting the first week of April
  •  The students will have a “Brain Break.” The teachers will play a fun game of volley ball with some of the students.
  • The following schedule will be followed. All tests will be administered on the computer.

New PTA Board 2017-2018

We have had an amazing PTA board this year. However, each year we have to elect new officers for the next school year. If you are interested in serving on the board as an officer, the requirements for each elected official can be located on our web page. Please review the requirements, and let the PTA board know that you are interested. Email the PTA at or email Ms. Alexander at on or by May 1, 2017.

Note From: CTS - PTA

Teacher Appreciation Week is

May 1st – 5th

Dear Parents,

This year Teacher Appreciation is going to look a little different than in years past. EXCEPT ON MONDAY, all items will be sent in to the front office where PTA volunteers will be there to collect the items and put them together for all the teachers and staff to enjoy. By doing this, all the teachers and staff will be recipients of our appreciation. Please see below:

Monday:  The PTA will provide a Chic-fil-A breakfast and gift cards to Olive Garden for our teachers.

Tuesday: Snack Bar: Please send in a salty snack OR a sweet snack OR drinks into the office (all snacks should be individually wrapped in quantities of 12 or more i.e. crackers, bags of chips, popcorn, granola bars, protein bars, mini candy bars, bags of cookies, 12 pack of any soft drink, bottled tea or bottled water). Please have your child bring the items to the office during morning carpool drop-off. We will collect all the items and set up a “snack bar” in the Teacher’s Workroom for everyone to enjoy!

Wednesday:Pamper Yourself Bar: Please send in one (or more) of the following items to the office in the morning. We will set up a “Pamper Yourself Bar” in the Teacher Workroom. All teachers and staff will be able to pick 2 items from the bar to enjoy. Pamper items: emery boards, nail polish, lotions, candles, hair ties, hand sanitizer, nail polish remover or anything that falls into this category.

Thursday: Wish List Bar: Please send in essential teacher supplies to the office on Thursday morning. We will set up a supply bar in the Teacher Workroom so they can pick the items they need for their classroom or office. Some suggestions include: Copy paper, paper clips, staples, rubber bands, post-its, mechanical pencils, colored pens, paper towels, tissues, hand sanitizer, colored paper or anything else that falls into this category. We will be compiling a “Wish List” with input from the teachers next week.

Friday:  Words from the heart: Please have your child write a note of thanks or encouragement to their classroom teacher as well as any of the specials (art, music, computer, IB coordinator, school nurse, administrators, Spanish teachers, custodians or support staff). You may send in a flower or apple with the note if you like. They can take these notes directly to their teacher.

The Final PTA meeting promises to be exciting!

Mark your calendars for the PTA’s 2017 Summer Fashion Show.  This new PTA event will take place on Thursday, May 11, immediately following the regularly scheduled PTA meeting. The CTS Fashion Show, themed “Step into Summer”, will showcase a runway show featuring CTS students and parents wearing the latest summer trends. To ensure a successful event, we are inviting kids and their parents to join the fun as models and volunteers for the upcoming fashion show.  If you are interested in participating, please be on the lookout for flyers that will be going home in classroom folders. The deadline for participation is Monday, April 17. Models will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. For more information, please contact your teacher or e-mail the PTA at

End of the year field trips:

Students attending out of town trips must arrive at the school at the designated time. Students will be left behind if they are late. Please check your child’s classroom newsletters for any updates. Morning Drop Off!

Thank you parents for your cooperation during the morning drop off. Your cooperation with dropping your students off at 7:30 rather than earlier has improved. Please be reminded when dropping students off on Virginia Street that parents are responsible for walking their little ones to the crossing guard. Everyone should look out for little ones when driving into the parking lot and backing out.
